Male fertility examinations

Semen analysis is a simple and reliable test that helps assess sperm count, quality, and motility, as well as their impact on the likelihood of conception. It is an important part of determining the causes of infertility. In approximately half of couples, male factors may be one of the causes of difficulty conceiving.

A semen analysis quickly provides an overview of whether a man’s fertility indicators are within normal limits or require further testing or treatment.

What does a male fertility assessment involve?

Male fertility is primarily assessed based on semen quality. From a fertility perspective, it is important that the number and motility of sperm cells are sufficient for conception. The main test for assessing male fertility is a semen analysis, which evaluates the following characteristics:

  • The volume and quality of the semen are assessed
  • Sperm count (normally at least 15 million/ml)
  • Motility and viability – what percentage of sperm cells are motile
  • The presence of antibodies that reduce fertility

What happens if the test reveals abnormalities?

Who should have their fertility evaluated?

We recommend a semen analysis if conception has not occurred within about a year, or sooner if there are risk factors, such as:

  • Previous testicular surgeries or injuries
  • Inflammation in the genital area
  • Certain chronic diseases or the use of medications that affect fertility
  • Advanced age in terms of fertility (men over 45, women over 38)

The test can also be performed as a preventive measure to assess your fertility before planning to start a family.

How to schedule the test?

You can come to Ovumia for a male fertility test without a referral. All semen analyses are subject to a fee. You can conveniently book an appointment online or by calling the clinic.

Our goal is to provide you with a calm and supportive experience. The tests are performed with sensitivity, and all results are explained clearly and comprehensively by our specialist. If necessary, the fertility specialist will order additional tests, taking into account the results of previous analyses.
