Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a method in which motile sperm are introduced into a woman’s uterus using a special catheter, timed to coincide with ovulation, increasing the likelihood of conception. With IUI, the woman’s own menstrual cycle is taken into account, and fertilization of the egg occurs within the woman’s own body. In some cases, however, insemination is not suitable or possible. In such cases, IVF treatment may be the best solution.
Ovumia Tallinn has its own sperm bank, but it is also possible to order donor sperm from Danish sperm banks: European Sperm Bank and Cryos International.
Before insemination, the need for a fallopian tube patency test is also assessed. The probability of conception per insemination cycle is on average 10–15%, and most pregnancies occur within the first 3–4 attempts.
For female couples, results may even be better if there are no other known factors affecting fertility besides the absence of sperm.
The cost of insemination includes Ovumia donor sperm and the procedure. Sometimes an ultrasound is needed to determine the exact time of ovulation, but in most cases, this can be done with a home ovulation test.
