Donors are carefully selected in accordance with Estonian laws and international quality standards. They are healthy women aged 20–33 and men aged 19–40. All donors undergo a thorough interview and extensive medical testing before being approved as donors.
In Estonia, gamete donation is anonymous by law. This means that the donor’s personal information is not disclosed to either the parents or the child, and the donor and the families cannot identify each other. Only a limited amount of general information may be disclosed, such as ethnicity, skin color, education, marital status, whether the donor has children, height, body type, and eye and hair color. This information is intended to help the family make an informed choice while protecting the donor’s privacy.
An anonymous donor has no rights or obligations toward the child. Similarly, neither the child nor the child’s parents have the right to know the donor’s name or other identifying information. Once the child reaches the age of majority, they have the right to receive information about their artificial conception, but even then, only the limited information permitted by law will be disclosed.
In Estonia, the law permits selecting a gamete donor solely based on general physical and biological characteristics that do not allow for the donor’s personal identification. The following information about the donor may be disclosed: height, eye, hair, and skin color, ethnicity, education, marital status, and whether they have children. Based on this information, the clinic’s donor coordinator helps find the most suitable donor, taking into account both the family’s wishes and medical indications.
A donor’s personal information—such as their name, personal identification number, or contact details—is never disclosed, as gamete donation in Estonia is always anonymous. This ensures the privacy and safety of both the donor and the recipient family.

There are no waiting lists for egg, sperm, or double donation treatments at Ovumia clinics—treatment can usually begin within a few months of your initial visit. However, the start of treatment always depends on your individual situation, the desired donor characteristics, finding a suitable donor, and the schedule for necessary tests and consultations.
At Ovumia clinics, the upper age limit for female recipients is 51 years. The treating physician always assesses whether the planned treatment and a potential pregnancy are safe from the perspective of the woman’s health. A prerequisite for treatment is that the woman does not have any severe chronic illnesses or be severly obese.
