IVF for international patients in Estonia

At Ovumia, we combine modern treatment options with years of experience, resulting in more than 80% of our patients achieving pregnancy. Modern fertility treatment is more effective and offers more possibilities than ever before.

Our doctors at Ovumia (Nova Vita) Tallinn always select the treatment method on an individual basis to give you the best possible chance of getting pregnant and having a baby.

If you’re exploring fertility care later in life, you’re not alone. In Estonia, the age limit for infertility treatment is 50 years, so we treat women up to age 51 at the Tallinn clinic.

We welcome international patients and aim for fast access to care!

Why travel to Estonia for fertility treatments?

IVF Regulations in Estonia

From January 2024, Estonian legislation updates expanded possibilities for different family types and donor-gamete pathways.

  • Age: The age limit for infertility treatment in Estonia is 50 years, so we treat women up to age 51 at the Ovumia Tallinn clinic.
  • Assisted reproduction is available for different family types for both medical and social reasons: Married/unmarried couples, single women, and married female couples
  • Donors: Anonymous donor gametes are possible but Estonia also allows known non-partner donors (a known person to the recipient with no legal parental rights or responsibilities).
  • Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is allowed
  • Sex selection is allowed only for medical reasons.
  • Surrogacy is not permitted; the woman who gives birth is the legal mother.
  • Although the law permits the transfer of up to three embryos, the clinic’s policy is to perform single embryo transfer (SET) in order to prioritize patient safety and optimize treatment outcomes.
  • Embryos can be stored up to 7 years; egg and sperm freezing allowed for medical and social reasons

Process for international patients at Ovumia Tallinn?

Initial appointment (doctor consultation)

The first step is a consultation with a fertility doctor. During the appointment, the medical prerequisites for treatment, the treatment process and prognosis are reviewed. You are encouraged to ask questions and discuss your individual situation in detail. You may also attend the initial appointment simply to explore your options, without committing to treatment.

Nurse appointment and donor selection

After the counselling session, the recipient meets with a nurse to discuss donor selection, the treatment pathway and scheduling. The nurse will contact you once a suitable donor has been identified.

Treatment planning

Once a donor has been found, the doctor creates an individualised treatment plan. During this appointment, you will receive information about the required medication and treatment timeline. Our nurses provide detailed instructions and guidance on medication use.

Treatment implementation

Following treatment planning, treatment can begin according to your personalised plan.
