Sofia’s long fertility treatment journey was marked by waiting, setbacks and, ultimately, immense joy multiplied by four. With Ovumia’s support, the dream of parenthood came true, and the family welcomed four daughters.
Sofia Ek was only 18 years old when she had her first child. Two years later, the family welcomed another little one. A few years later, however, as Sofia and her husband dreamed of expanding their family, they faced unexpected challenges.
– We tried for more than a year without success. That was when we realised we needed to seek help, Sofia says.
The couple turned to the central hospital and, through public healthcare, were offered the opportunity to undergo three treatment cycles. However, the waiting times were long, and pregnancy did not occur. As the months passed without results, their frustration grew, while their longing for another child became even stronger.
Eventually, Sofia and her husband decided to seek care at Ovumia, a clinic specialized in fertility treatments.
– I was 25 years old when we started our journey with Ovumia. From the very first appointment, we felt that we were in good hands. We were listened to, and together with the specialists, we created a plan that helped us pursue our dream of becoming parents again.
Although several embryos were created during treatment, pregnancy did not happen right away.
– It was difficult to understand why I wasn’t getting pregnant when everything seemed to be going as it should. It was emotionally very difficult, Sofia recalls.
The journey included several unsuccessful fertility treatment cycles and heartbreaking losses, as pregnancies ended in miscarriage after only a few weeks. After years of trying and many difficult moments, the couple’s patience was finally rewarded.
After five years and 14 treatment cycles, Sofia became pregnant and began expecting Zoe.
– The pregnancy was not without complications. At week 12, I started bleeding heavily, and we feared the worst. Ovumia’s careful monitoring helped us stay calm, and fortunately everything turned out well. Zoe was born at week 38 – our long-awaited little girl.
One year after Zoe’s birth, another surprise came. With embryo number 15, Sofia became pregnant again – this time with twins.
– It was an incredible surprise. We felt truly blessed, Sofia says.
Zeana and Zeona, who had been waiting in the freezer for more than a year, were born, and the family experienced double the joy.
– All three girls are from the same egg retrieval, which makes their bond especially meaningful.
Although the family now had three wonderful daughters, Sofia felt that their journey was not yet complete.
– We still had one embryo in the freezer, and I felt that we had to try again.
The final attempt sadly ended in miscarriage, which was a difficult experience for the whole family. Sofia, however, did not give up. After a new egg retrieval and a few embryo transfers, attempt number 21 brought the long-awaited result – the family’s youngest daughter, Zelly, was born.
– She is our little miracle. After everything we went through, she truly deserves to be spoiled, Sofia says with a smile.
When Sofia looks back on her journey, she feels deeply grateful to Ovumia.
– Without them, we would not have our four wonderful daughters. They did not only help us become parents – they gave us the strength to keep going when everything felt hopeless.
Sofia has an important message for others in a similar situation:
– Dare to seek help and speak openly. Fertility treatment is much more common than many people think, and there is no need to feel ashamed if you need support. My openness has encouraged several of my friends to seek help, and they too have had children of their own. That feels incredible.
She also wants to remind others of the importance of perseverance:
– Every journey is unique. Our journey took years, but in the end, we succeeded. All the setbacks were worth it.
