Pregnancy ultrasound examinations and NIPT

A pregnancy ultrasound is an important part of monitoring both the mother and baby’s health throughout pregnancy. With ultrasound, we can assess fetal growth and development, examine anatomical structures, and ensure the pregnancy is progressing normally. It also offers a special moment for expecting parents to see and connect with their baby.

At our fertility clinic, we use modern, high-resolution ultrasound technology that provides a clear and detailed view of your baby’s development.

Contact Ovumia to book a pregnancy ultrasound – we can arrange one even on a short notice.

  • Nuchal translucency (NT) scan and early anatomy screening (available in Kuopio)
    • Weeks 11+0 - 13+6
    • Measures nuchal translucency to assess chromosomal risk and evaluates early fetal structures
  • Second-trimester ultrasound  (available in Kuopio)
    • Weeks 16-18
    • Evaluates early fetal anatomy and development, placental location, and amniotic fluid
  • Fetal anatomy scan (available in Kuopio)
    • Weeks 18-21+6
    • Detailed scan to assess fetal anatomy, monitor growth, and detect potential abnormalities
  • 3D/4D Pregnancy ultrasound (available in Kuopio)
    • Typically, weeks 24-30
    • Visualizes movements, facial features, and positioning in a real-time scan. Evaluates growth, development, and amniotic fluid.
  • Pregnancy Ultrasound Scan with a Midwife — Kuopio
    • Our midwife, who has completed ultrasound training, performs pregnancy ultrasound scans from gestational weeks 7 to 28.
    • The scan includes 3D/4D imaging where possible, depending on the baby’s position and the stage of pregnancy.
    • Please choose an ultrasound scan performed by a doctor if you have an underlying medical condition requiring medication, a history of recurrent miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies, bleeding, abdominal pain, or concerns about the baby’s wellbeing.
    •  To find the most suitable appointment time, you can also ask our clinic for guidance.
    • In addition to our midwife, early pregnancy ultrasound scans are also performed at our clinics by fertility specialists.
    • From gestational week 12 onwards, pregnancy ultrasound scans are performed by a doctor specializing in fetal diagnostics, a perinatologist.
    • Please note that if anything unusual is detected during the midwife’s ultrasound scan, we will advise you to book an appointment with one of our doctors for diagnostic assessment — either a fertility specialist or a perinatologist, depending on the stage of pregnancy.
  • NIPT test  (available at all clincs)
    • Done as a blood test from the mother after week 10
    • Screens for risk of most common chromosome abnormalities (trisomy 21, 18, and 13) and prediction of baby’s gender if requested.

If you’re unsure where to begin or would like guidance, we’re here for you!
