IVF for international patients in Finland

At Ovumia, we combine modern treatment options with years of experience, resulting in more than 80% of our patients achieving pregnancy. Modern fertility treatment is more effective and offers more possibilities than ever before.

Our doctors at Ovumia always select the treatment method on an individual basis to give you the best possible chance of getting pregnant and having a baby.

At Ovumia, each patient has a dedicated patient coordinator to help with practical questions and day-to-day matters throughout the treatment process. You can easily reach our patient coordinators through our contact forms whenever you need support. We offer services in Finnish, English, Swedish, and Spanish.

The average waiting time to start treatment is 2–4 months. However, the timing is always individual, and in some cases treatment can begin sooner.

We welcome international patients and aim for fast access to care!

Why travel to Finland for fertility treatments?

Excellent success rates with donor treatments

IVF Regulations in Finland

  • Age: In Finland, eligibility for fertility treatment is based on an individual medical assessment and clinic-specific practice. In practice, private clinics generally have an age limit of 46. Ovumia Finland provides fertility treatments until the age of 46.
  • Assisted reproduction is available for different family types, including female-male couples, single women and female couples.
  • Donors: Donated sperm and eggs can be used in fertility treatments. Our donors are altruistic healthy people without any hereditary diseases. Every donor candidate undergoes a comprehensive screening and quality-assurance process (medical and genetic evaluation, psychological assessment, quality control).
  • Non-anonymous donation: Finland operates a non-anonymous donor programme. Children born through donor conception have the legal right to obtain identifying information about the donor when they turn 18. Recipient families may be provided with certain non-identifying donor characteristics permitted by law, including ethnic background, skin colour, hair colour, eye colour and height.
  • Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) may be used when medically indicated and in accordance with Finnish legislation and clinical practice.
  • Sex selection: Sex selection is not permitted for non-medical reasons.
  • Surrogacy: Surrogacy is not permitted; under Finnish law, the woman who gives birth is considered the legal mother.
  • Storage and fertility preservation: Gametes and embryos can be stored in accordance with Finnish legislation. Egg and sperm freezing may also be used for fertility preservation depending on the individual situation and treatment plan.

Process for international patients at Ovumia Tallinn?

Initial appointment (doctor consultation)

The first step is a consultation with a fertility doctor. During the appointment, the medical prerequisites for treatment, the treatment process and prognosis are reviewed. You are encouraged to ask questions and discuss your individual situation in detail. You may also attend the initial appointment simply to explore your options, without committing to treatment.

Nurse appointment and donor selection

After the counselling session, the recipient meets with a nurse to discuss donor selection, the treatment pathway and scheduling. The nurse will contact you once a suitable donor has been identified.

Treatment planning

Once a donor has been found, the doctor creates an individualised treatment plan. During this appointment, you will receive information about the required medication and treatment timeline. Our nurses provide detailed instructions and guidance on medication use.

Treatment implementation

Following treatment planning, treatment can begin according to your personalised plan.
