During insemination, donor sperm is gently sprayed into the uterus of the partner undergoing treatment, allowing fertilization to happen naturally within the body. Insemination is often the first-line fertility treatment because it is simple, effective, and affordable. Sometimes, insemination may not be possible, in which case IVF is recommended.
Artificial insemination is typically the first treatment method with donor sperm. The success of insemination depends on the woman’s age and overall fertility health. Before treatment, we assess the need to perform a fallopian tube patency test or other tests.
The pregnancy rate per insemination cycle is typically around 10–15%, and most pregnancies occur within the first three to four treatment cycles. For female couples, results are often even higher when there are no underlying fertility issues other than the absence of sperm.
The cost of insemination with donor sperm includes the donor sperm and the insemination procedure. Sometimes an ultrasound is used to time ovulation, but most often, at-home ovulation tests are sufficient.
