Under Estonian law, gamete donors may be selected only based on general physical and biological characteristics that do not allow personal identification. The following donor information may be disclosed: height, eye, hair and skin colour, nationality, education, and whether the donor has children. Using this information, the clinic’s donor coordinator can help select the most suitable donor, taking into accountfamily preferences and medical indications.
A donor’s personal data — such as name, personal identification number or contact details — is never disclosed, as gamete donation in Estonia is always anonymous. This ensures the privacy and safety of both the donor and the recipient family.
There are no waiting lists at Ovumia clinics for egg donation, sperm donation or full-donor treatments – treatment can usually begin within a couple of months after the first visit. The timeline depends on the individual situation, the desired donor characteristics, the availability of a suitable donor, and the scheduling of the recipient’s tests and counselling.
At Ovumia clinics, the age limit for recipients (women) is 51 years, and the treating physician will always assess whether the treatment or pregnancy may pose any health risks. If needed, blood tests, blood pressure and medications are reviewed and adjusted to ensure they are safe to use during pregnancy. We recommend contacting the clinic well in advance so that the body can be in the best possible condition for pregnancy.
