If you were conceived through fertility treatment using donated gametes (donated eggs or sperm), you have the right, once you are an adult, to learn the identity of the gamete donor, provided that:
You can obtain the donor's details from LVV using the donor code. You can get the donor code from the Ovumia clinic where your parents or parent were treated.
Here's what to do:
Over the years, some fertility clinics have merged with other clinics, and their names may have changed. You can find the history of the Ovumia clinics in the chart below.
Contact the Ovumia clinic where your parents or parent were treated. You can find the contact details of Ovumia clinics on our website.
You will be asked for your personal and contact details, as well as the personal identity code of the person who gave birth to you. You will receive guidance on the steps of the process and can ask any questions you have. At this stage, we cannot yet confirm whether your parents were treated at our clinic.
Obtain a birth certificate from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency showing your parents' names and personal identity codes, and submit it to the Ovumia clinic.
Using the information on your birth certificate, Ovumia will look into your parents' or parent's treatment. Once this is complete, we will contact you to book an appointment.
The appointment is in person and free of charge. Please bring:
At the appointment, a nurse will tell you the outcome of the search and, if the conditions are met, give you the donor code that was used in the fertility treatment that led to your birth. The nurse will also guide you through obtaining the donor's details from the Luoteri database.
For more information about the right of donor-conceived people to access information, please contact Ovumia or visit, for example, the Helminauha project website (in finnish) of Simpukka ry.
Our psychotherapists offer professional counselling, for a fee, to both donor-conceived people and donors. Please contact Ovumia's appointment booking!
