The decision to transition to fertility treatments using donor eggs is often preceded by a long, emotionally taxing journey. However, for many, this decision ultimately brings profound relief and renewed hope. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with donor eggs offers one of the highest success rates in reproductive medicine.
At Ovumia, we are proud to be pioneers in donor gamete treatments. Thanks to our extensive in-house egg bank, you can begin your journey toward parenthood immediately—without the stress of long waiting lists.
Treatment with donated eggs is primarily considered when a woman’s own ovaries no longer produce eggs or when the quality of the eggs has significantly declined. Common reasons include:
Premature ovarian failure (early menopause).
Advanced maternal age.
Repeated unsuccessful IVF treatments using the patient's own eggs.
A high risk of passing on a severe hereditary disease.
In many public healthcare systems, patients can wait months or even years for a suitable donor. Ovumia has its own dedicated egg bank, which fundamentally changes the patient experience. Because we have a continuous pool of healthy, carefully screened, and altruistic donors, we can match you with a suitable donor almost immediately.
All our donors are young, healthy women residing in Finland who have undergone rigorous medical, psychological, and genetic screening in accordance with the Finnish Act on Assisted Fertility Treatments.
First visit and consultation before treatment with donated eggs: The process begins with a consultation where we review your medical history and discuss the psychological aspects of donor treatments.
Donor matching: Our coordinators will match you with a donor based on your physical characteristics (such as eye color, hair color, and height) according to Finnish legislation.
Fertilization and embryo development: The eggs are fertilised in the laboratory, and the embryos are cultured for 2–5 days.
Embryo transfer: One embryo is transferred to the uterus using a thin catheter—a quick procedure that is usually painless.
Freezing (FET): Any remaining high-quality embryos are safely frozen for potential future family expansion.
The prognosis is excellent. Because the eggs come from young, fertile donors, the success rates are generally higher than standard IVF, often exceeding 60% per embryo transfer, and the cumulative pregnancy rate over multiple transfers is even higher.
According to Finnish law, gamete donation is non-anonymous to the child. This means that a child born from a donated gamete has the right to find out the identity of the donor upon turning 18. However, the donor has no rights or obligations toward the child, and the recipient parents do not receive identifying information about the donor.
