Ovulation induction

Ovulation induction (OI) is a hormone treatment used to stimulate the ovaries and help initiate or regulate ovulation. Fertilisation takes place inside the body through intercourse or insemination.

Who is ovulation induction suitable for?

  • Heterosexual couples

  • Particularly women with ovulation disorders, such as PCOS. An irregular menstrual cycle may be a sign of an ovulation disorder.

How is ovulation induction carried out?

Treatment may involve oral medication taken at the beginning of the menstrual cycle, with an ultrasound examination performed at least during the first treatment cycle.

Alternatively, injectable medication may be used. In this case, ultrasound monitoring is required during each treatment cycle.

Can ovulation induction be combined with other treatments?

  • Insemination, using either partner sperm or donor sperm
