Embryo culture

During embryo culture, the eggs are fertilised in the laboratory on the day of egg retrieval or, in the case of frozen eggs, on the day they are thawed.

Fertilisation is checked the following day. Normal fertilisation is confirmed when two pronuclei are visible within the fertilised egg. The embryos are then cultured and monitored for approximately 3–6 days, depending on the individual treatment plan.

During this time, some embryos may naturally stop developing. Only embryos of suitable quality can be transferred or frozen for possible future use.

Embryos are cultured in specialised incubators under carefully controlled conditions. Temperature and gas concentrations are continuously monitored to maintain an optimal environment for embryo development. Our experienced laboratory team closely monitors the embryos and ensures that each stage of the process is carried out safely and according to the treatment plan.

The EmbryoScope time-lapse incubator has a built-in imaging system that automatically takes images of the embryos at regular intervals. These thousands of images are combined into a time-lapse video, allowing our embryologists to monitor embryo development and the timing of cell division without unnecessarily disturbing the culture conditions.

If you wish, an embryologist can review the EmbryoScope video with you and discuss observations related to the development of your embryos.
