Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is used to examine the genetic characteristics of an embryo. The results can help us select an embryo with the greatest likelihood of leading to a successful pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child.
There are three main types of PGT:
-
PGT-M – used to test for known inherited conditions caused by changes in a single gene
-
PGT-SR – used to detect structural chromosome abnormalities, such as translocations
-
PGT-A – used to assess the number of chromosomes and detect abnormalities such as trisomies. A non-invasive form of the test, niPGT-A, may also be available
EmbryoGlue
EmbryoGlue is a specialised embryo transfer medium containing a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. It is designed to support the conditions for embryo implantation in the uterus.
GM-CSF culture and transfer medium
GM-CSF is a culture and transfer medium containing a naturally occurring growth factor that may support early embryo development and implantation.
Assisted hatching (AHA)
Assisted hatching (AHA) is a laboratory technique in which a laser is used to thin or create a small opening in the outer shell of the embryo. This may help the embryo hatch and support implantation after transfer.
EmbryoScope time-lapse incubator
EmbryoScope is a time-lapse incubator that allows embryos to develop under carefully controlled conditions while their development is continuously monitored using an integrated imaging system. This means that the culture dish does not need to be removed from the incubator for routine assessment.

PICSI sperm selection
PICSI is a sperm selection method that may be considered in situations such as high levels of sperm DNA fragmentation or poor embryo development in previous treatments.
Sperm DNA fragmentation test
A sperm DNA fragmentation test assesses the level of DNA damage within sperm cells. A high DNA fragmentation index (DFI) may negatively affect fertilisation, embryo development and the chances of achieving a successful pregnancy.
Microfluidic sperm selection
In fertility treatment, sperm may be processed using a microfluidic selection method, such as ZyMōt or SpermCount Harvest. This method may help select sperm with lower levels of DNA fragmentation compared with conventional density-gradient preparation.
Surgical sperm retrieval
Surgical sperm retrieval, such as TESA, is a procedure in which sperm are collected directly from the testicle.
