By donating your eggs, you can help someone’s dreams come true.
Reily has donated eggs at the Ovumia Tallinn clinic four times already and would gladly do it again and again, because “the feeling that I can make my own small contribution so that someone else can experience what I would call the best feeling in the world – becoming a parent.”
Reily considered becoming an egg donor for a long time and searched for information both online and among acquaintances. Once it became clear that she was suitable as an egg donor, she did not hesitate for a moment and would be ready to donate again at any time. She recommends egg donation to everyone who has the opportunity:
“100%. If you’ve thought about it, definitely apply and don’t doubt yourself. At the Ovumia Tallinn clinic, you are well cared for and supported by true professionals.”
Read on to find out why Reily decided to donate eggs, how she experienced the donation process, and what thoughts and doubts she had along the way.
An acquaintance of mine had donated eggs and talked about it. After hearing about it several times, I started looking for information online about what it is and how it works. After my research, I put the topic aside for a while.
When the COVID wave hit Estonia in 2020 and everyone stayed at home, I started seeing ads for the Nova Vita (nowadays Ovumia Tallinn) clinic. Eventually, I clicked on one and began looking into how to apply as a donor. The first time, I didn’t submit the application, but I couldn’t find peace and felt that I had to complete it and send it off — thinking that I probably wouldn’t be a suitable candidate anyway. After submitting the application, I was contacted quite quickly and invited for a visit.
I thought about applying to become a donor for a long time, but once it became clear that I was suitable and everything was in order, the decision to donate came easily and quickly. I felt that I wanted to do it and contribute to families who cannot have children on their own.
Yes, I found all the necessary information on ovumia.com. I also contacted my acquaintance who had already been there.
I don’t remember having any assumptions about the procedure. The only thing I was nervous about was giving myself injections, as I had never done anything like that before.
In my opinion, the whole process is very simple. The first time involves more clinic visits than subsequent times. Everything—when and how many injections to give—is explained and clearly marked in advance, and the plan is easy to follow. Throughout the entire donation process, the doctor is available to you, and any questions you have are answered. During the donor cycle, you also need to visit the clinic in person.
Since the injections have to be done in the morning and later also in the evenings, it did not affect my work at all. I could do the first injection at home before the workday and the second once I got back home. If I knew that I wouldn’t make it home on time in the evening, I always took everything I needed with me. Since the medications are small, they fit perfectly into a handbag, if needed.
Egg donation did not affect my family life. My husband and I had already decided that we do not wish to have more children at the moment, and he fully supported giving other families the opportunity to have a child when they cannot do so themselves.
The first time, I was definitely a bit anxious because I didn’t yet know exactly what to expect or how everything would go. The clinic staff have always been very supportive and friendly. Everything was explained clearly and understandably.
Every step up until anesthesia was explained—what was being done and why. After waking up, the staff is always right there, asking how you feel, and so on. Afterward, you can recover and rest comfortably in the ward. When you feel clear‑headed again, you go to Maire, who explains how everything went and how many eggs were retrieved. That’s always interesting to hear.
When I started donating, I already had one child, so I knew that everything was fine regarding my fertility. After the first donation, I learned that I am capable of producing a fairly large number of eggs that others can use. I have been a donor since 2020 and have donated four times, and each time a large number of eggs has been retrieved.
Without thinking twice, I would always do it again. Since I no longer plan to have children myself, I want to give that opportunity to those who are unable to conceive.
I chose Ovumia Tallinn because I had already heard of them, they were the first whose advertisement I saw, and their website had the most information about donation.
I live 168 km away from the clinic, but the trip is always worth it because the positive emotions I get from them outweigh the distance.
Egg donors are needed continuously. Every year, hundreds of fertility treatments using donor eggs are carried out in Estonia.
