Fertility Treatment and IVF in Tallinn: When is the Right Time to Seek Help?

None

The journey to parenthood is deeply personal, and for many, it does not unfold as easily as hoped. If pregnancy has not occurred despite your efforts, it is natural to feel uncertainty or concern. At Ovumia Tallinn, our role is to provide clarity, professional guidance, and evidence‑based care so that you can move forward with confidence and the support you deserve.

Our Tallinn clinic is led by highly experienced doctors specializing in reproductive medicine, and offers comprehensive fertility diagnostics and advanced fertility treatments, in a calm and supportive clinical environment.

When Should You Consider a Fertility Assessemt?

The general medical recommendation is to seek a professional fertility assessment if you have been having regular, unprotected intercourse for one year without achieving a pregnancy.

However, time is a critical factor in reproductive medicine. We strongly advise booking an initial consultation after just six months if:

  • The female partner is 35 years of age or older.
  • You have a relevant medical history: conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis or previous pelvic surgeries and chlamydia can create physical or hormonal barriers to fertility
  • You have irregular or absent menstrual cycles
  • You have a high BMI or significant weight fluctuations
  • There are known concerns related to male fertility such as changes in libido or sexual function, or exposure to high-heat environments or toxins

What Happens During Your First Visit at Ovumia Tallinn?

The goal of your first visit is to map out your current situation thoroughly. We do not rush straight into treatments; we start with precise diagnostics.

During the consultation, your doctor will:

  1. Review Your Medical History: We will discuss your lifestyle, previous pregnancies, and any underlying health conditions.
  2. Conduct a medical examination: The woman will usually have a gynaecological examination and an ultrasound scan
  3. Provide an individualized treatment plan: Based on the interview and possible examination, our doctor will provide inital information on the different types of infertility treatments available.
  4. Introduce our team: You will receive information about our clinic practices and meet Ovumia’s nursing staff.

From Diagnostics to IVF: Creating Your Treatment Plan

Once we have a clear diagnostic picture, your specialist will create a personalised treatment plan. At Ovumia Tallinn, we offer the full spectrum of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), from milder options such as ovulation induction and artificial insemination (IUI) to in vitro fertilisation (IVF) when indicated.

If less invasive treatments are not suitable, we proceed to IVF. In IVF, eggs and sperm are combined in carefully controlled laboratory conditions, and resulting embryos are cultured in incubators for 2–5 days before transfer; where appropriate, we also perform blastocyst culture.

When sperm parameters warrant, we use ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection)—a single, carefully selected sperm is microinjected into a mature egg to support fertilisation.  Our embryologists follow internationally recognised best practices across fertilisation and embryo culture, and our laboratory service portfolio also includes advanced options all designed to support safe, high‑quality care and optimise outcomes.
