Our egg and sperm bank provides non-anonymous, registered open-identity donors in Finland and Sweden, as well as anonymous donors at our Estonian and Ukrainian clinics.
Donors are selected carefully according to Finnish legislation and international quality standards. They are healthy women aged 20–35 and healthy men aged 20–45. All donors undergo a thorough interview process and detailed medical testing before being approved.
In addition, most donors meet with a psychology professional before donation.
According to Finnish law, donors cannot receive high financial compensation, which means our donors participate purely out of a desire to help others.
A non-anonymous donation means that any person born from donated gametes has the legal right at age 18 to request the donor’s identifying information. This is also called open donation (open donor), now used in most European countries, including Finland and Sweden.
The donor’s identity is recorded in Finland’s official national registry (Luoteri database, maintained by Valvira—the national supervisory authority for welfare and health).
The donor has no obligations or rights regarding the child born from their gametes. An individual conceived through donation may wish to contact the donor, but communication is entirely voluntary for the donor.
The child’s parents are the family into which the child is born. Parents do not have the right to access identifying donor information. Thie right is only for the donor-conceived child.
Ovumia’s donors are primarily Scandinavian and European. Non-anonymous donors are registered according to Finnish laws and requirements.
Ovumia’s egg and sperm bank mainly offers Finnish donor gametes, but we also have donors from Estonia and Ukraine. Our clinics in Estonia and Ukraine follow the same high-quality recruitment and storage procedures as Ovumia clinics in Finland.
Donor approval is carried out according to Finnish legislation.
According to Finnish law, recipients may express wishes regarding certain characteristics, such as eye and hair color, skin color, and height. Our donor coordinators will find the best possible match based on your preferences.

At Ovumia, there are no waiting lists for egg donation, sperm donation, or double donation treatments—you may receive treatment approximately 2–4 months after your first visit.
The exact timeline depends on your individual situation, your preferences, and finding a suitable donor. The timeline is also influenced by the recipient’s examinations and the timing of donor counseling.
At Ovumia, the maximum recipient age is 46 (woman), and the treating physician ensures that neither the treatment nor the pregnancy poses a health risk.
Blood tests and blood pressure measurements may sometimes be required before treatment. Current medications may need adjustment to ensure they are safe for pregnancy. It is important to contact the clinic early, so your body is in the best possible condition for embryo transfer.
If you are over 46 (woman), you may contact Ovumia Tallinn, where treatment with anonymously donated gametes is available up to age 51.
