Treatment with donated eggs – a safe path to pregnancy

When pregnancy is not possible using your own eggs, regardless of the reason, treatment with donated eggs can be a safe and hopeful next step. For many—whether single or in a relationship—the decision is significant and emotional. We are here to guide you through every part of the process with warmth, respect, and clear information.

At Ovumia, we have long experience with egg donation treatments and offer fertility care without waiting times. Our goal is to provide the best possible conditions for you to become a parent.

What is egg donation?

How egg donation treatment works

First visit – individual planning

At the first appointment, we review your health, background, and any previous treatments. We always allow plenty of time for questions, and you receive a clear, individually tailored treatment plan.

Consultation before treatment with donated eggs

By law, a consultation with a psychologist or therapist is included. This conversation provides support ahead of the decision and addresses psychological and ethical questions that may be relevant—for both single individuals and couples.

Donor matching

Together with our donor coordinator, you are matched with a suitable donor through our egg bank. Donors are registered, non-anonymous, and carefully screened through medical and genetic testing.

Fertilisation and embryo development

The eggs are fertilised in the laboratory, and the embryos are cultured for 2–5 days.

Our team of physicians, embryologists, and nurses keeps you continuously informed about how the treatment is progressing.

Embryo transfer

One embryo is transferred to the uterus using a thin catheter—a quick procedure that is usually painless.

A pregnancy test is performed two weeks later.

Who donates eggs?

Egg donation is made possible by voluntary donors who:

Donors are compensated for expenses related to the donation in accordance with Swedish law. The primary motivation is most often the wish to help someone else have a child.

We take good care of our donors—many choose to donate again.

  • Are healthy women between 20 and 35 years of age
  • Are registered and non-anonymous
  • Undergo extensive medical, genetic, and psychological screening

Treatment with donated and frozen embryos

In some situations, treatment can also be carried out using donated embryos. These embryos come from couples who have already had the number of children they wish for and who choose to help others longing for a child.

Donors undergo medical evaluation as well as counselling covering psychological and ethical aspects. Availability is limited, but when possible, this can be a valuable alternative.

What does treatment with donated eggs cost?

The price depends on several factors, including:

  • Whether fresh or frozen eggs are used
  • How many embryos develop
  • Whether donated sperm is also needed
  • The treatment plan tailored specifically to you
